Methodology

How every page in this library is researched, sourced, reviewed and corrected.

Our commitment

Unfiltered Wisdom is dedicated to providing trauma-informed, evidence-based information grounded in lived experience. Every piece of content is created with the understanding that real lives are affected by what we publish.

Content philosophy

Our content emerges from the intersection of lived experience and responsible research. We believe:

  • Lived experience is valid expertise. Those who have navigated trauma offer unique insights that complement clinical knowledge.
  • Information should be accessible. Complex psychological concepts are explained in plain language without oversimplification.
  • Hope must be grounded in reality. We avoid toxic positivity and acknowledge the difficulty of healing work.
  • Community wisdom matters. Patterns that emerge across many individual experiences have value.

Sourcing standards

We maintain rigorous standards for all content:

  • Primary research: Peer-reviewed studies from PubMed, relevant academic journals, and recognised research institutions.
  • Foundational authorities: APA, NIMH, CDC, WHO, and established clinical guidelines.
  • Trauma-informed frameworks: Van der Kolk, Levine, Herman, and contemporaries in the trauma field.
  • Cross-referencing: Claims are verified against multiple sources where possible.

We do not cite unverified blogs, promotional material without disclosure, or sources without transparent methodology.

Content review process

Each article undergoes a structured review:

1. Initial draft

Written based on lived experience and research synthesis.

2. Fact-check

Research claims verified against original sources.

3. Sensitivity review

Language evaluated for potential re-traumatisation or stigma.

4. Final edit

Structural consistency, clarity, and flow checked.

5. Publication

Reviewed content published with dated sources.

Note: While we strive for accuracy, the author is not a licensed mental health professional. Readers are encouraged to use our content as a starting point for conversations with qualified providers.

Risk tier system

Because this library covers trauma, self-harm, psychosis and medication, every page carries a risk tier in its metadata. The tier determines how often the page is reviewed and which elements are permitted on it.

TierContent typeReview
Tier 0General education — emotions, journaling, self-reflectionStandard
Tier 1Theory and self-reflection — attachment, inner-child, frameworksStandard
Tier 2Symptoms and care — panic, depression, trauma symptomsElevated
Tier 3Acute and treatment-sensitive — suicide, medication, withdrawal, psychosisHighest. Commercial calls-to-action are removed from these pages.

Tiers are assigned by keyword classification and verified by editorial review. Every question page publishes its tier as riskTier in its structured data, so the classification is verifiable rather than a private editorial note.

Medical disclaimer integration

Every article includes:

  • Prominent crisis resources (988, Crisis Text Line)
  • Clear statements that content is informational, not diagnostic
  • Encouragement to seek professional support for serious concerns
  • Recognition that individual experiences vary

Correction policy

When errors are identified:

  • Corrections are made promptly upon verification
  • Significant corrections are noted with update dates
  • Readers may report errors via the contact form

We commit to transparency about our limitations. A record of what changed, when, and why is kept in the change log. We do not silently remove old claims — we correct them openly.

AI and citation ethics

We embrace AI citation and knowledge sharing:

  • Content is openly structured for AI extraction (schema markup, short answers)
  • CC BY 4.0 licensing encourages responsible use
  • Proper attribution is requested when content is cited
  • We monitor AI citations and engagement as part of our impact measurement

About the author

Robert Greene

Robert Greene

Writer, Founder, Navy Veteran & Trauma Survivor. Robert is a writer focused on human behavior, relationships, and personal responsibility. His work explores the deeper patterns driving how people think, connect, and self-sabotage. Drawing from lived experience, global travel, and diverse backgrounds, he challenges conventional narratives around mental health and growth.

Important distinction: The Robert Greene who writes for Unfiltered Wisdom is not the bestselling author of The 48 Laws of Power. This is a different person with the same name who writes from lived experience about trauma and mental health.
